Advice on breaking into govt. work? (25M, DC/Baltimore Area)

Hey, all. I currently work as a data analyst at a govt contractor (have been working for about 6 months) and am trying to get into a job on the fed side since it sounds like a pretty cush lifestyle and comes with a lot of benefits & stability. Any advice on getting started/getting a foot in the door? Also, does anyone have experience working for the fed govt? Rn, the company I'm at pays well enough, but the work is menial and there's no upward mobility. I feel like if I go to the fed side and put in my time now, I'll be able to retire early with a pension and the pay is extremely transparent and it's pretty much a guaranteed increase each year. Rn, the company I'm at pays well enough, but the work is menial and there's no upward mobility. Plus once my probationary period is up, I can hop around to different agencies and jump up the ladder faster.
