During my 3-year annual review, I requested a raise to combat inflation. I received a 2% union raise but nothing besides that. My supervisor said they'd look into it, took 8 months to look into it, and essentially told me there was nothing they could do at the time. So I think, fine, and I start applying around to every job I qualify for. I just recently received an offer letter from a job I applied for, and proceeded to provide it to my boss. Same-day raise by $3000/yr. I'm happy that I received the raise but saddened that they could've done it at the drop of a hat when I've wanted it for so long now.
