Am I actually in the wrong here?

New to this subreddit, so please give me grace. This was a new one for me at work. I got reprimanded today by our department director for sending work emails outside of my regular work schedule. Sometimes I'm up late and think of something and I'll send an email or Teams message so I don't forget or get sidetracked the next day. Apparently that's a bad thing. I was told that not only didn't I have to do this, but they did not want me to do this, and if there was an emergency, they would text me. I'm salaried, so it's not costing them anything. I now think I'll be the only person fired for working more than their regular schedule.
