Applying for Unemployment; Lost job due to failing PIP. EDD of California asking for truthful reason for dismissal or else penalties. If I put I was fired, how can I appeal it during the process?

I was let go after a 2 month PIP, that started a month after my cancer treatment.

I was recently let go and want to apply for unemployment, but EDD is asking for a truthful answer for dismissal. If I want to appeal, where do I do so during the process? I assume if I state I was fired, it will reject my claim.
