Are my efforts viewed as assistance or servitude?

My employer, a popular nationwide chain involved in retail, has chosen to implement a new policy of “You cannot leave until I say so.” as a means of ensuring productivity. I find it incredibly dehumanizing and unappreciative of the efforts I consistently provide. I work an 8 hour shift, full time in an atmosphere that fluctuates between being understaffed and overstaffed meanwhile the workload from night to night also fluctuates in a manner inconsistent with staffing. I transferred to a new location with the company a month ago and quickly rose to the being a top performer, supposedly respected by management, in my new branch. I apologize for the grammar issues. I work overnights, I'm tired physically and mentally but also pissed off. It feels like I am passively being told that I am owned while also being subjected to a “classroom group project” work theme where the efficient individuals…

I apologize for the grammar issues. I work overnights, I'm tired physically and mentally but also pissed off. It feels like I am passively being told that I am owned while also being subjected to a “classroom group project” work theme where the efficient individuals are being forced to pick up the slack for those whom don't do as much work at the risk of being unjustly punished and given equal reward as those who did little. This policy makes me question a few long-term investment possibilities with this company.
