Are negotiations with employers doomed to fail in the long run?

I WOULD LIKE TO STRESS THAT I AM NOT SAYING STRIKES AND NEGOTIATIONS ARE USELESS. So, the Writers Guild of America is striking, and negotiating with their employers. However, from what results of the ongoing negotiations they have released, there is a big problem. Negotiations are there to reach a compromise. A Compromise is both parties giving up some of what they want and meeting halfway. Thing is, the demands and ideas of the companies they are negotiating with are absolutely bonkers insane, and just out of this world. Meaning that meeting them halfway is still a move towards insanity, and the next round of strikes and negotiations that will happen in the few years, will start…

So, the Writers Guild of America is striking, and negotiating with their employers. However, from what results of the ongoing negotiations they have released, there is a big problem.

Negotiations are there to reach a compromise. A Compromise is both parties giving up some of what they want and meeting halfway.

Thing is, the demands and ideas of the companies they are negotiating with are absolutely bonkers insane, and just out of this world. Meaning that meeting them halfway is still a move towards insanity, and the next round of strikes and negotiations that will happen in the few years, will start with the slightly insanity shifted baseline. In a decade or two, companies could have unions accept what is considered insane today, because they'll slowly nudge normalcy and the “halfway point of compromise” towards it.
