I applied for an Executive Assistant position. During the interview, the potential manager did and said the following:
-
Told me he needed someone who could “manage” him
-
Said he needed someone who could tell him when he’s too stressed or “acting like his mother.” Used example of his husband calling him by his mother’s name and half-jokingly said he’d let me do the same to put him in his place, basically.
-
Asked me how I took criticism and said he’s a critical person
-
Said that if I don’t respond within an hour he’d be upset/assume I’m not working, but also claims he’s not a micromanager. The position isn’t truly just Executive Assistant because would be supporting various leadership positions with projects and events, and also function as a receptionist
-
Said he needed someone who would “tell him when he has something in his teeth”
-
Would ask me a question, wait for my response and then tell me he was testing me
He said all of this very “nicely” for the most part and in a half serious half humorous tone, but my gut was telling me these are red flags and I would not work well with him.
