Are we supposed to be writing long blog posts about our interests and passions, and hope an audience will flock to our website and click on ads?

I would rather not try to find out if that’s worth my time and effort. One could browse data and research on SEO, but there are still plenty of ways things could turn out with less-than-stellar results. How many people want to create lengthy blogposts for a small or no audience, and hope that over the months some people will notice that the blog is worth reading or following? Of course, for some local and established organizations this could be useful (oftentimes very useful). But for personal initiatives on more abstract topics, a blog might not pertain to specific location or trends. Or, people may already have other blogs and magazines they read that cover those topics. Then how does one attract an audience? This takes a lot of time and effort to find out.
