First I want to state, I am a hard worker, I try to go above and beyond to a certain extent, but a few years ago I was working so much more without getting paid I drained myself and never will I do that again.
I work 0630-1500 (we have to take a mandatory lunch) my team lead works 0700-1630 (he gets every other Friday off though) I work five 8’s.
It was 1455 yesterday, I started packing my stuff up (also I was in the office at 0605 so I was already working more than I get paid for.
My team lead turns to me and another kid and says “I know you all are done at 1500, but how about staying until 1630”
Honestly I laughed….I really thought he was joking, so I said “only if I get paid for it” his response was “well you all are granted 8 hours of OT until the end of the Fiscal Year”
Once again I laughed, proceeded to pack my things up, and told them have a good night. Never will I kill myself and burn myself out like I did at one of my older jobs. I will work hard for my 8 hours but after that I’m fucking done. I have a life and plus my commute home is 50-55 minutes. You won’t catch me staying a minute late.
