I was recently let go from a job I was starting to enjoy, I’m now unemployed for the second time in a year and change (hospitality in NYC is tough).
I have three degrees, a BFA and two masters. I’ve done a lot of varied work within mostly creative and academic fields. I have a decent amount of experience in a few areas. Mostly non profit, museums and events.
I’m wanting to find something that sticks. I don’t need the forever job, but something more than a year that I won’t hate. But I feel like the job market wants hyper focused extremely niche skills at mid level. (5-7 years of experience in one thing). I’m 32 and need a certain amount of pay to stay afloat in nyc. Entry level isn’t an option, really.
I don’t know what path to take. No job listing excites me. I don’t know how to make up for not picking one thing. Is it even worth it? Maybe my “career path ” doesn’t exist? Sigh. Help.
