so i have strep throat currently and work in a restaurant. i only work there a couple days a week at the moment for mental health reasons but yeah. anyway i felt it would be irresponsible to go into my shift today but if they truly needed me to come i’d take precautions and wear a mask if necessary which i told my manager very politely over the phone. i just know there’s still a chance i could spread it cus it’s very contagious. he asks if i’ve taken antibiotics, and i’m just honest and say that no i haven’t been able to access those because i can’t afford a doctor’s visit. there’s just this very long pause and with some attitude and exasperation i get “okay well you can either come in wear a mask or stay home it’s whatever your choice is” and i’m just a bit surprised at his tone. i say i guess i’ll stay home then cus i’d hate to get anyone sick. this place i work was barely passing health inspections at one point. i don’t really understand why so many managers give attitude to their employees who are just trying to be responsible. i shouldn’t feel anxious about having to call and say i’m sick.
