These are the main reasons why I am “anti-work”;

The injustices of the lower and middle classes; The United States is the ONLY first-world country without universal healthcare insurance While inflation and cost of living have been sky-rocketing, especially with record YoY inflation data, the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hr has been unchanged since July 2009 In 1971, 2 1/2 years worth of labour was all that was necessary to afford a NEW home off the averagea annual salary. Even off minimum wage in 1971, which was $1.60, minimum wage workers working full-time ($1.60 x 40hrs/week x 52 weeks) could afford a new home after just over 7 1/2 years of labour. However, with the modern average wage being $54,132, minimum wage and the average new home costing $543,600, this 2 1/2 years of labour becomes 10 years worth of labour for the average income, and the average minimum-wage full-time worker 36 years worth of labour. Using the same…

Dreading meeting tomorrow to discuss whether I can stay on at the job I work for.

I was hired via an agency and recently someone else lost their job because the school I work for claimed they could no longer afford people from agencies. They told them that they should of applied for a permanent position earlier in the year but didn't specify that when the positions where open. My contract goes until the end of the school year, but I don't trust these people and the fact that they ruthlessly fired that person like that tells me I need to get everything in order and think about what I'll say tomorrow at the meeting with the head of the school. I'm thinking about mentioning the contract that the agency and the head agreed to which said I'd be staying on until the end of July, but I'm not sure what else to mention? It all just came very suddenly and I'm not just worried for…

Job took away linked in learnings and isn’t providing me with the same trainings as everyone else

I work as a a project coordinator, kind of doing a little bit of everything. One thing I’m trying to hone in my skills with is reporting. The extent of my career development for this is through leveraging Linked in learnings and the rare case the BI Analyst has time to show me things. Now that linked in learning is being taken away, they are bringing in trainers/training programs, but only for the “more common” jobs like recruiter or sourcer. I am not being given this option because there are only “a couple people in the org who do reporting”. How fucked is this? Wouldn’t you think this would mean they should allocate more resources to develop these types of roles better? What can I do to make sure I get the career development I’ve been promised?

My job is threatening termination.

My job doesn't provide our schedules online/electronically. The schedules are only printed & posted in the store. They've also cut all part-time hours drastically about two weeks ago, without warning. I had 5 days off & apparently, during that time, the schedule was tweaked without me being informed. I was supposedly due to come in at noon today, but the photograph I have of my schedule (taken during my last shift) has my start time as 3pm. My manager called & left a voicemail stating that this would be considered a “no call, no show” & is grounds for termination under our attendance policy. However, I was told by my manager that we were entitled to a formal & then a written warning before termination could occur. I've received no warnings. I'm feeling very frustrated & upset. I'm not sure how to approach this situation as I'll be having a…

Help to relieve guilt of leaving early?

I left work early today, have some bad upper body muscle pain and a splitting headache that was worsening whenever I had to project my voice. I’m a teacher, so that’s a lot. But going home is a bit of an inconvenience as someone has to cover my room. I did send a message an hour before school started, agreed to come in for a few hours as the county was doing a walkthrough of the school in the morning, then they let me go. Even with all that – legitimate reason, communicating as early as I knew, going in for a few hours anyway – I still feel tense and some sense of guilt when I’m not there. I should be planning, catching up on grading, doing something while I’m home. I know it should be ok, but still feel like it’s not. Looking to this sub to help…

The Job Hunt is inhuman

Tl;dr: I have excellent selective memory but that which I can't remember punishes me in interviews. Help. As the title says, inhuman. I hate it. I am a person that has difficulty retaining information if I can't immediately put it into action or unless something significant engraves it into memory. For instance, my Udemy library is full of courses of things I am interested in. Many of the course are designed to help pass technical certification tests. No matter how many times I watch a course none of it sticks unless I can use it. So the portion of these courses that I can put into practice I learn easily but no matter what I try I can't learn anything I have no immediate use for. This is hurting me in interviews because it makes me seems like I don't know what I am talking about, which to be fair,…
