Will I ever get my time off? Quit?
Long story short, I started in this company on January of 2022. Here you “earn” your vacation days so I had to wait until the end of the year to take my glorious 10 days. Fine. I had a trip booked for the holidays, I emailed my boss and the VP saying I'd be taking my 10 days then. Denied. I asked why and the reason was “if I give it to you, I'd have to give it to everyone else… take it in January”. FINE. I had absolutely nothing planned for January so I didn't take them, I justified to myself as a good rat on the race would “that's cool, I'll just accumulate and take them all together this year during summer, it'll be great!”. So, in 2 weeks we have a week-long trip for a conference and I'm SO BURNED OUT from prepping everything for it. I…
I’m a mental health provider at a clinic. A few weeks ago, out of the blue, my employer asked me to sign a contract for a year. I didn’t get hired under a contract. So, this is all new to me. The contract has some ridiculous clauses, including requiring me to give a 90-day notice if I ever want to leave for another job. Essentially, this prevents me from getting another job for an entire year. All medical providers got very generous raises to their pay. So, of course, they all signed without a problem. I didn’t get a raise. Two weeks ago, I made an attempt to negotiate the contract with the CMO and CEO. They basically said “we can’t guarantee anything, but we’ll present it to the Board.” Today, they called asking me to submit the contract by tomorrow. They didn’t bother to follow-up with the negotiations. I…
I work at the counter at a donut/corn dog shop. I just glaze the donuts usually UNTIL yesterday when they threw me a curveball about saying from 11-3 that I would have to do BOH’s job as WELL as Counter. I have NOT had training on the fryers and it’s the busiest time for us from 11-3.
Someone clearly doesn’t like the Colonel
I used to work for a puppy store. I’m in school with the end goal of being a veterinarian and this was the first ever animal related job I could get. I’m not even going to get into their suspicious business model of commodifying puppies and exploiting low income individuals. Being an employee there was horrible. I honestly believe that a lot of the things they did to us and continue to do are illegal. To list a few things: I had to sign an NDA with a non-compete agreement that looked like it was written up in under 5 minutes. After I quit, I found out that in my state, employees under hourly wage cannot be subjected to non-compete agreements. They worked me off the clock. I was promoted to team lead AND store manager. I would get calls from both the employer and employees after my shift ended.…
So long story short I’ve had a lot of problems with my mental health on top of my managers or coworkers being absolutely awful people that I couldn’t stand to be around, or my last job I just couldn’t do because I got paralyzing anxiety from heights (had no idea how often you’d be in a bucket truck or a 20’ ladder as an electrician. Looking back on it, taking this job was obviously a mistake.) but I wanted to try something new and couldn’t stand serving food any longer. But after a few months I got really tired of working there because of all the hazing on top of ignoring OSHA regulations and like I said, just being unbearable to be around. So I called my boss a few months back and told him I had to quit for my mental health (which was true.) Now I feel like…
Is my job not paying me for time worked?
I started this job as a Store Manger in Training (SMIT) at a local coffee shop chain. The company doesn’t have a store available for me yet to manage, so I’m functioning as an Assistant Manager at another store. My employment agreement states that as a salaried employee I will be required to work 45-50 hours/week for $52k/year. I signed the agreement and have been consistently scheduled 45hrs/week which has become extremely taxing as the work environment is extremely dysfunctional and hostile. The company uses a popular app for payroll and within the app my paystub shows that I am getting paid for only 40hrs/week at a rate of $25/hr. When I brought this up to my Area Manager she explained that I was getting paid for the full 45 hours, but the app doesn’t reflect that due to how the system works. But if I were getting paid for…
My boyfriend and I both work at a job together that is seasonal, and one of our supervisors told my boyfriend out of the blue, totally randomly, totally without prompt or anything that I wasn’t being brought back next season. Fine, thats their choice, but here is where it gets me; How is it okay to tell someone’s partner that their loved one is going to be crushed, and then just move on? My boyfriend didn’t want to tell me but I eventually found out after he desperately tried to convince me it wasn’t worth going back next season so that I wouldn’t be shattered or find out they don’t want me back. I loved that job, and loved the people, and poured my heart and soul into the job to the point where I’d be easily burnt out and exhausted. I sobbed for hours finding out I wasn’t coming…
