I am currently in school and going to complete my degree in 2 years. I am working a part time job while in my studies. I just got a raise. This is amazing and sad at the same time. The part time job I am at requires little skill when I applied but gave me an overall 6% and 11% respectively over two years. The work that I am going for begins lower and I have heard raises rarely go over 5% annually. I am seriously considering studying something else after three years because it is paying better and less physically and mentally demanding.

I'm 39(M). I'm an industrial engineer, grad of 09', and also a registered nurse from 17'. I've done many, many lines of work in my life, and all of them deranged my mental well-being. Many of these jobs were exploitative in nature, and I applied myself to learn valuable degrees and skills in order to have a meaningful career. I. 2020 I was lucky to find the first job in my life that didn't sturr up crippling anxiety – I was a product manager for a cutting edge medical device in the ICU field. It required both my engineering skills and clinical expertise. They pay was 52k dollars a year and I got a car, life was good. 18 months later, I got laid off because the Covid bonanza was over. I have been searching for a similar job frantically since then. I even excelled in a subsidized cyber security…
We work a provincial government job in healthcare. Our management expects our entire department to celebrate holidays and birthdays at a restaurant they decide on by taking a “group vote”. We are expected to pay for our own meals. This is done on company time, and opting out is not allowed. At time’s management collects for donations towards a gift if it is a retirement for a coworker. I resent feeling obligated to : 1. Spend my own money on eating out this way. 2. I work with these people and would rather not socialize with most of them, particularly the management. (Working a full day around them is enough for me). 3. Being expected to financially contribute to a retirement gift for YOUR employees because your too cheap to get them one on behalf of the company. (And you get the credit for giving)! I want to work, and…

You guys don’t go on vacations???
I've been working for 12 years now, some of it in Dubai and the rest here in India. I'm now working for a company in the states (outsourced ofcourse), and have made friends with some of the workers there. One of whom is a very sweet lady, who used to talk to me a lot about how life is here in India and her life in US, I used to share pictures of my hometown or wherever I went on vacation that year. Once I asked her that since she lived in such a vast and beautiful country, which places she had been on vacation , she said she didn't go on any vacation in the past 25 years, that was a shock to me. How many of you guys have not travelled your own country? Generally companies in India have 21 days annual leave, 12 public holidays. How much…
