I’ve been working for the same municipality for almost 7 years. 2 years ago I made a lateral move for my own mental health, as my boss in my then department was not listening to any of my complaints about issues with harassment I was receiving from another supervisor. I applied for, and received, another position on the opposite side of the city for the same pay and essentially the same duties. Within a month of being there the two main managers abruptly retired. Within another month the only other main employee quit. I was left with one other employee who is in the department but has a different skill set to the main needs of the department. A year later, we finally got back to a fully staffed position. But, I was quickly being given more and more duties and projects to work on — that don’t exactly correlate…
I have been at my current job for 3 years. I have only called out 5 which inude: my home being hitting with a stray bullet, catching covid, getting sick twice from mandatory covid shots, and getting injured from work. I stay over and there has been many times when I worked an entire 12 hour shift by myself. According to her this is my second write up and she does not have to tell anyone about the first one. The write up is for being late back in September. I know that I live in an at will state and can be fired for anything but this is completely bullshit. TO ALL THE HARDWORKERS OUT THERE:…
AI, Doing the Heavy Lifting
So, algorithms choose who is laid off, and algorithms filter through the job applications. Why do we need an HR department?

A Mint for Worker Appreciation
I work at a place where the owners make money by billing insirance. They bill over $100 an hour while most employees are lucky to make $20 with paltry PTO. The HR person is asking us each to contribute to buy the owner husband and wife tickets to a Broadway play that run upwards of $300. These owners live in a fancy house in an upscale suburb. We are also being asked to write affirmations for an “affirmations calendar”, whatever the hell that is. This feels gross and coerced and I'm not interested. I ignored the group social media msg about the tickets but now HR is singling me out by text. What is the best response?
