Quick question: I have tendered my resignation / 2 weeks notice for my company (corporate world). Their HR is trying to get me to tell them where I'm going, but I don't want to tell them. I have NOT signed a non-compete agreement with this company. Do I have any legal obligation to tell them where I'm going? Without a non-compete, I'm pretty sure I don't have to, but I'd like some advice. Obviously HR is going to run scare tactics and tell me I have to or XYZ will happen, etc…, I just want to be sure I can tell them, “no, I'm not sharing that information” and just walk away. Thanks for input!
New Annual “Health Check” requested
I work for a large Canadian food manufacturing corporation, our facility has been bought and traded between different food empires several times and has thankfully stayed unionized throughout. During covid the corporation hired a nurse to be the health lead, who conveniently is married to a senior manager. As worries about covid wind down she has less to do and seems to be reaching. The latest was to unexpectedly post mandatory appointments with her for so far unheard of “annual health checks”. This was to include a physical, hearing and other checks. This was met by immediately pushback by the union membership. The union advised the members that apart from the hearing these were not mandatory, and that their personal health decision were theirs and theirs alone. I’m glad of this response and As someone who is extremely protective of my health information, I feel supported by my union. My…
Dress-code requirements and other costs.
I work in an industry where you're required to wear dress clothes, pretty much for every shift. A lot of dress clothing requires dry cleaning- which I had set out to do the day before yesterday while I had a day off, but an unexpected car troubles that required emergency diagnostics and a small repair. The emergency wiped out my checking account, and until my check hits anywhere between today and Friday, I'm in the red by at least $50. Fast forward to today. I worked an opening shift with the store manager, who gave me a sort of look that was in between disdain and mild annoyance. She asked me why my clothes weren't pressed, and that did I know we had a corporate visit today? Which, I had no idea, but still- I told her I had an unexpected bill and had to use my budget to fix…
I've been lurking this sub for some time and appreciate the push that some of yall inspired.. I had been working for a company that treated their employees like dirt. Constantly told we were a drain on them. Told my department is just overhead when in reality we got the jobs that kept the place running. The guy training to be my boss idolized Hitler and loved to let the department know. My boss didn't seem to care and I was the only one willing to stand toe to to with this guy. The company however was started by a guy who was a part of “Merrill's Marauders”. Fighting Hitler and then coming back to create this company.. I mean you can't make this shit up. My boss would require us to be early to our daily start times. Asking that we clock in between 6:30-6:45 then changing my time…
I'm in the incredibly fortunate position of being able to live work free for about 2-3 weeks after coming out of an intense year in a specialist position. The change in my mental health has been instant and dramatic – I've been so much more creative, passionate about life, free with my hobbies and friends, and overall I just feel positive and relaxed by having so much control over my day to day activities. Since leaving the job I've been dabbling in part time work here and there to make ends meet and just dipping my toe back into the work world again has left me terrified of who I am when working full time. I feel so sad that I have to sacrifice my best self for the sake of working to live.
Me and another got 1.5% “raises”, and clearly day shift isn't liking it because one of them is leaving. Like what do you expect? You give us essentially pay cuts, to work 48 hour weeks (with a month of 80 hr weeks …). Then tell us to work more overtime for 2/3 our pay to “make up for it…” When we already work on the lower end of the spectrum for our field. I'm proud that my generation isn't putting up with this shit lmao. We have knowledge of the plant, we know we can make more money else where with little time invested in searching. The only reason I'm not leaving asap is because I'm getting my certs in order before leaving in 3-4 months. Gone are the days of company loyalty I suppose, which is problematic for when your plant relies on experienced people.
