I just started working for this cleaning business and I was required to sign these two documents before starting. Can they legally reduce my pay rate to minimum wage if the work I do isn’t up to par?

Long story short, I was a contractor at this company and worked very hard, showed up and put in extra effort when coworkers were slacking, etc. Ultimately was not asked to come in for 2 months while my manager avoided my questions and no one told me what was going on until finally a random person I don't even work with called me and told me in a very causal tone that there was no need for me anymore. I am happy with my response and had been thinking about it for a while. Management is genuinely bad especially with their treatment of PAs so I wanted to say something. None of them ever did reply, which is fine. Although now I get little moments of “oh god was that email super cringey??”
There seems to be an agenda afoot….
The author suggests startups paying people high wages lead to “mercenary” teams with no loyalty. Why is loyalty always a one way street?
“We won't hire you. If you have depression, you may take SSRIs or drink.”
Is this normally how this works? When I was in the military my pay was the same every 2 weeks no matter how little or how much I worked. At my current job if I get 35 hours a week instead of 40 or if I call out sick I am payed hourly for that week. I tried looking up info on this but had a hard time finding it exactly.
My mom has a friend who works in a morgue and is often scheduled for work, so she comes in ready to work but often there is no work for her to do and she doesn't get paid. My question is, is that illegal and can she do something about it?
I called out sick today because I’m genuinely not feeling well and told my boss I want to use 8 of my sick hours for today. He told me I must provide a doctors note. What he requested was totally understandable but last month, I asked to use my sick hours and even provided a doctor’s note but he didn’t pay me for them. No benefits to this job and just two days ago, I was asked to sell chocolates for his daughter’s private school. How nice.
