Back in August/ September, I started working for an outside sales representative company, which I’m sure you folks are already groaning at. It is essentially a pyramid scheme, with one large company networking contracts for marketing “teams” that are their own companies, with extremely high focus on “fast tracking” employees into being a “business owner”. This company I worked for was technically a third-party representative of an energy company, with whom they had marketing contracts. These companies, in my state, are part of deregulated energy suppliers, which essentially means that our utility companies are outsourcing their energy, rather than creating it themselves. I work full-time in the public sector. Bachelor is in liberal arts like Art History / English / Classics. No grad degree. No student debt. My pay is alright; could absolutely be better, but I'm still saving at a decent rate each month. I started poking around because I have a skillset that I heard is valuable. Really just poking around; not particularly desperate to leave. Went through some interviews. Got an offer for almost twice my current salary… in the private sector (adjacent/lateral position, but not moving up). How much? Higher than the post-grad salaries of professional programs like law or nursing. I am an entry level employee that is newer. My manager gave me a verbal warning and said I am affecting team morale. My morale is low too. Isn’t a manager responsible for morale?
