Bait and switch job offer

A person goes for a “working” job interview and is offered the job “on the spot”. Wages were stated to be a certain amount during training, and then a certain amount after training, what a quarterly bonus would be (if you qualify). Interviewee accepts the verbal offer. This morning, interviewee is contacted via phone and is told that because their experience in this field is so old and things have changed so much you still get the training wage as discussed and agreed verbally, but the wage after you are certified is now several $$ below the verbal offer/agreement. (It's not me, but I know things haven't changed because it's what I do for the last 20 years). Wouldn't the verbal offer that was accepted be considered a verbal contract? Or am I way off base. This little bait and switch makes me wonder what else they might screw my…

Can I get unemployment?

My job has constant tech issues that routinely leave me without pay for several days and sometimes weeks at a time. I can’t pay my bills frequently due to this, and it happens sometimes more than once a month. Im currently going on day 17 without pay right now. If I quit, can I get unemployment? Im in Michigan, company is based in Colorado. The law is a bit confusing to me.

Intrusive thought

I am so exhausted, incredibly burnt out, and I am only 25. I regularly think about withdrawing some money from my retirement acct, quit my job, and live remote for a month-two months to just recoup. Then come back and start to work again.

Partner has been told by work she is allowed zero days off for 6 months… help!

So my partner works in retail and has given them her all for a couple years now yet they treat her like crap. She’s actively looking for other jobs but has just been told by her manager that she cannot have any sick days off for 26 weeks and that even if she has a flare up of her chronic medical condition or migraines, she still has to make it in. She was even forced to sign a counselling document to say that the conversation had happened and that she agreed to the new rules for her. Her attendance was 95% so I’m furious and would like to do something about this, so what can be done? I’m in the UK.

Executive Comments on Inflation

My company recently had one of those townhall meetings for all employees. One of the executives was presenting financials for the 2022 year and was saying it was a tough year due to a lot of different challenges, particularly high inflation. He says that with high inflation doesn't just impact businesses and that “everyone is feeling the pinch in their pocket books. Whether it's groceries or gas, everything is expensive.” Then goes on to add “especially with flights and travel! Have you seen the prices lately?! I took my family on our annual Christmas vacation and boy let me tell ya, you could really feel that inflation! *chuckling and laughing* Ya know, I thought about downgrading our usual hotel resort but I thought no I better dig deeper for my family after the tough year we've all had.” Seriously, how can people be so tone deaf? How on earth is…

Need a quick vent

So frustrating when a job is a entry level position. And then you get passed up for someone with years of experience. I’m tired of this work culture. Thank you for my vent talk. Hope your day is going better.

Advice Needed: Newly hired manager is making me miserable. Am I overreacting and how do I move forward?

To give some context, I work in a small financial services organization. We currently have 2 partners and 14 salaried employees. The partners recently decided to hire a COO to handle the HR and day to day management of the firm, so that they could focus on bringing in business and doing the core of their jobs. The new hire is ~30 years old and is fresh out of 8 years as a military officer. This is his first civilian role. My professional interactions with this individual so far have been: Being reprimanded multiple times for menial or previously agreed upon things. For example, my schedule is 7:00AM to 4:00PM, but we are given the option of 7:00-4:00 or 8:00-5:00. Over the course of 18 months of employment prior to his hire, I generally came in ~7:15 and left ~4:30-5:00. I never once received a comment from management about this,…
