First of all this isn’t about me, it’s about a friend who needs help but they don’t have Reddit! I took a job role as a team leader in a two man job doing manual work for a water company. I had a labourer at the time who I would travel to pick up and take home every morning and night as he was unable to drive. Due to stress with the job and some personal issues i had a breakdown and stepped down from my job, I got a new role as a backup support driver for the teams in the water company, my labourer has a new team leader who is able to drive. Work has told me I still have to collect the labourer everyday and take him home, it is adding a extra hour drive in the morning and a extra two hour drive home at…

Hello folks ! Some reading for yall, don't forget to do it on company time ! I've been working for a bit more than 3 months as a seasonal worker in agriculture. Tough work, in tough conditions. But I liked it, enjoyed working with my colleagues and learning a lot. It was different from my previous jobs, since I used to be a front end developper lol. Because of that, I'm not quite used to working outside by negative temperatures. 2 weeks ago, I was feeling sick, since my heater had been broken for almost a month. Still went to work on monday, and on wednesday, I started feeling quite dizzy, on the verge of vomitting, so my boss told me to put my bike in his truck & he would drive me home. On the way, he told me I was sick too often, and that a…
Unsure if I should quit my job.
So I am a powered industrial truck trainer for a huge warehouse corporation. It's been a great job for the year I've been here and the pay is decent. Due to my position I get emails with information on the new hires that are coming in. Last week I checked my emails to see how many people were starting and a feeling of dread took over me. My company hired the man who molested me for 4 years during my childhood. I immediately went to HR and explained the situation. If he starts there I will directly have to work with this man for several weeks. HR looked into it and told me because the man was never charged, there hands were tied and I should be “a professional and do my job.” I don't wanna lose this income but I don't see another option.
Went to put in my notice the other day..
I called my boss and explained that I'd be leaving the company in a week due to a sudden opportunity. As you'd figure, he didn't like it and had a bit of a fit. Despite me being extremely kind and thanking him for everything he insisted he didn't even need me around for the final week. It sucks cause that's a week's worth of money I'm losing all for being honest about my next move. He just had someone else quit on the spot and I thought I'd be doing right by him by giving him a heads up. I guess just quit on your bosses when you're ready if you don't wanna starve for a week. TL;DR: My boss fired me for letting him know I was gonna quit.
My former job let some ppl be fully remote even if there peers were going in the office. I initially started taking off vacation/pto which allowed me to come in one day a week instead of the two like some of my team was doing. Looking back I regret this, because it probably made me look bad, although no one said anything to me. I just really couldn’t afford to pay $500 a month in commuting fees. I just wonder if other companies had people who were allowed more leniency, and held others to different standards.
Nothing else to say just truly speechless
Me with incredible stress having to work and enduring this wonderful situation. Best of all, they deleted the statement which gave me hope but TODAY they have returned it, guess what, exactly the same statement with the same salary. 2022 2023
Tldr at the end. This is not my story but my friends. Anyway, he works for the government and is a contractor. The reason being is the salary is not at market rate so this government facility go through staffing companies. Probably the government figures it’s more expensive to hire full time due benefits and can save money via staffing company. Anyway, I’m not going to specifics just to be safe. The job is not desirable, but very needed. It’s not the job itself, but what the job is for. So it’s not for everybody and there are virtually no applicants willing to do the job. Only a select few are willing. His team is the only willing personnel and has been for a number of years now. Anyway, the government places out bids once every number of years. The old system was every department needing workers have their own…
