This happened 20 years ago and is still a point of pride. I had a 2nd job at a movie theater when I 1st graduated college. Under the GM that hired me it was actually a pretty cool gig, then the company was sold and each GM after that got worse. I no longer needed the job an had turned in my notice. A snow storm hit Saturday night into Sunday. I was scheduled as the projectionist for the day shift. I also rented where I had to shovel out my car PLUS the entire driveway. I got the call that we had a delayed opening when I’d taken a break from shoveling. I was pissed off that I had to go in for 3 hours. (I realize now I could’ve told them to F off and gone back to bed.) A couple hours into my shift (I’d started the…

Looking for a new job and was just curious what you all think I should look out for to determine if a place will be a good or bad place to work. I know some of the basics, but want to hear others’ thoughts!
Honestly this was pretty difficult to confront because it wasn’t entirely my managers fault but mostly the owners. Context: I work at MacDonalds as a casual kitchen crew and work night shifts (the shift was on a Saturday). Basically we get split roles such as “Production – back area” and “maintenance”. I was assigned production – back area and on this day I had two other kitchen crew with me. I went about my day and one of the crew members was let’s say under the influence. Personally I have no problem with how people work or how they choose to come into work, I only have a problem when that forces me to pick up the slack because of their laziness/incompetence or forces me to do jobs that aren’t mine. He was a bit slow so he went and did maintenance as I was told and I stayed in…
My wife asked me this question. “Hey what would you do if you were an employee that was being talked to, just about everyday, inappropriately by a female customer. He has gone to our store managers and they told him there's nothing they can do about it. This kid is uncomfortable and has told the woman to stop talking to him and she won't.” Other than going over the heads of the in store managers I am not sure of what else he can do. This is a grocery store. Explains why the customer is there almost every day.
Overtime pay question
I work for a small company (less than 30 people) in Michigan. This job has the strangest way of paying out overtime. Time and a half doesn’t start till you work 42.5 hours during the work week. My employer considers the 2, 15 min paid break (30min total) each day not to count towards hours worked thus will not pay time and a half till that has been reached. Im 40 years old and have worked a handful of jobs in my time, but I have never had a employer handle overtime pay this way. I’ve tried searching labor laws to see if this is legal, but I’m having no luck. My thinking is, if jobs could do this ALL jobs would be doing that to save $.
