Angry cried at my performance review
Had this quarterly feedback thing with my boss. So it was going well got some compliments…but then a concern she had for me was: “she doesn’t like my emails/tone” “it comes off as I’m trying to tell her what to do “ She was referring to 2 that I sent about coworkers not showing up or showing up extremely late and not giving notice. I’m the first opener I feel like if they’re supposed to be my helper/backup person they should be reliable And I’m confused sure I was upset but I don’t think I phrased them aggressively or told her what to do. I don’t kiss ass but I also don’t think I’m in charge or anything This first email was about a guy who was constantly calling off or going home almost immediately after he got here; it was effecting my workload so I emailed her: “Hello, this…
There’s tone-deaf and then there’s this…
Advice needed: escaping corporate
Hey folks, TL;DR: Question: Do I make the jump from corporate (one of the big techs having layoffs) non-profit? I've been working in IT support for 15 years. A year ago I finally got directly employed by one of the big tech companies, before that I was always employed through a vendor. This was an especially big deal for me as this happened despite me having no experience with their product. My team and direct management are fantastic, but a fee months ago activist investors got in and since then things have been different, from Return to Office mandates to now layoffs. My team is safe, we are actually one of the few teams hiring. Still, before we got the confirmation (earlier this week, after waiting for a month) I did a tentative search for something else. What I found was a non-profit that sets up and manages cloud-based software…
I’m an artist, got my bachelors in illustration in one of the best schools in my country, currently studying for my Masters in animation at the same place. I’ve been struggling to find a job in my field for years now, always applying to entry level jobs because no one will take me without experience. Like the title said, got my resume declined in four minutes. It would’ve taken them at the very least 15 to just skim my portfolio. Can’t even ask them what was that about because it’s in an app where employers can choose a one way communication if the potential employe was declined. Don’t even know how to comment on this. Guess I don’t wanna work these days.
I was supposed to meet with the HR manager, Corissa, for my interview. It was for a specific job, with very specific hours, location and pay, hence why I applied. Corissa informed me that she would actually be out of town during my scheduled interview and if it would be alright if she set me up with her supervisor, Kimberly. Said no problem and was looking forward to it. The interview was this afternoon, I show up about 10 minutes before the appointed time, let the receptionist know I’m there and she goes back to inform Kim. 30 seconds go by and she comes back and informs me that Kim will be in a meeting at 2:30 (the appointed time) and if I could wait for a woman named Tamara to come interview me. Alright. I wait. And wait. For almost 30 full minutes. At this point I’m all ready…
