To add context, my boss is my family member, but the owner acts like the supreme leader running around like a chicken with his head cut off. This is exactly what “quiet hiring” is. So I work in administration, data entry, some payroll, special projects, doing work running random errands that don’t necessarily have to do with the main operations. Also have an office manager, I really good coworker of mine, except he has a specific job description, so that’s where I come in to fill in a lot of the holes because he doesn’t wanna do things outside of what he actually applied and got hired for. However that has changed a lot in the past month, and both him and I are looking for new jobs. But what’s hilarious is that he has started to be given the work that I was previously doing because I say yes…

I have an interview for Nothing
Just a funny anecdote, I’m doing a quick interview. The position I applied for got filled, (had an interview scheduled but it went to their junk mail), so I’m just applying in general, like just for general ongoing openings. I think that’s hilarious.
I work at the usual type of gross cut throat company. All for profits, horrible company culture, fuck the hard working people who have stayed long hours for crap pay etc etc. I’ve just started applying to other places but I’m having a very hard time knowing how to behave towards these shady assholes who run the show. Any advice on what I can do to jump ship quickly so I can be the one to give them the middle finger?! It’s scary out there. I’m hearing about so many layoffs lately.
potential cockroach infestation
so yesterday I found a cockroach at work, and today a coworker had one crawl across her foot I told my boss, who said they will spray tonight at 6pm (9 hours from now) I told her that's not how infestations work and that all it's gonna take for a patient to take home an infestation will be for a roach to hop in someone's bag looking for the Werther's Original they forgot about at the bottom of their purse, and that cockroaches are excellent vectors for diseases that might put the lives of our immunocompromised patients at risk they won't close down right now and do it because we won't be able to work for 2 hours which will obviously cost them money opinions? thoughts? prayers?
Looking Out for Layoffs..
I work as an analyst for a fairly large online retailer that would compete with companies like Wayfair. Lately it’s the (unfortunately) usual story for tech – key company metrics are down, no backfills, we’ve let some people go and are tightening the belt… I have already been concerned about imminent layoffs because I can’t see us not having one if we don’t have a magical uptick in all sales. However, something weird has happened recently and I wonder if it’s coming sooner rather than later. Several of the individuals on the team I’m on have been promoted. My performance hasn’t been poor and I have never been warned or disciplined for any reason, but I’m less experienced than most of my peers. It feels like they are trying to elevate some people to a space where they become untouchable and those promotions come with a salary boost… even though…
My situation is that I have been working at an airport/ airline (Starts with a D) for about 6 months prior to my trip and when you work at an airport you get flight benefits so it is significantly cheaper to fly. Anyways, after two weeks when I got back from my trip, I decided to put my two weeks in as the job doesn’t pay well and I have another job and the two schedules have been colliding with each other recently so it makes sense to quit the job that treats you like crap and pays terribly for the labor and you work in terrible weather. The airport isn’t too happy about this and is even threatening me to pay full price for the plane tickets on said trip for quitting which is a lot of money considering the trip I went on, especially with plane tickets being…
I Stand Corrected
I’ve browsed this sub and was thinking, “Hmmm…so these jobs are all hiring but not actually hiring qualified candidates. I’m not sure that would be the case for my situation.” Background: I work in the auto insurance industry. This industry is always booming. Therefore, I didn’t assume that I would be rejected for a position I am more than qualified for. As there are always openings because those who can’t deal with it, don’t, and quit. So I apply for an open position with a different company from my own, as there are no openings in my state for the current position I’d want. This position can make over $42K a year. I have the experience, I have the education, pay was not much higher than what I make now, but I figured a 3 dollar raise would be worth it. I apply and go through the interview process pretty…
Today we had a meeting at work where they discussed the large number of call outs we have been having and how it has been affecting our staffing, workload and team. They said that they are working on a new absentee policy where people who call in sick, especially repeatedly, will be subject to disciplinary actions such as write ups. They told us we are allotted two weeks of pto a year and that it might have to be used for sick time instead of a vacation (The pto accrues throughout the year so by December you would have two weeks worth total if you didn’t use it all year). After you use your pto you aren’t allowed to call in. They said any more call outs will be absentee-ism and will be reprimanded. I’ve used all my pto because we have been sick so often. My baby has been…
