Walked into my local Sally Beauty Supply store today because I saw online that they were hiring. is it likely there'll be no pushback / consequences if I tell my manager that the reason I can't come for two days is because I have to see my dying grandpa and not because I'm flying out to see my boyfriend?

My father has oral cancer that is presenting as ulcerated tumours on his face. He had it treated and was cancer free in July- we just found out its back. It is getting worse fast. He has become palliative. We are going downtown on Tuesday to meet with an oncology to see if immunotherapy is an option. It is absolutely horrific. I mostly feel I am floating. Needless to say work has been hard but I try. It's very hard to care about these work tasks. Sometimes I just want to scream at people “DONT YOU SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING” but obviously I need a paycheck. In times like these, you see employers are terrible. Three days bereavement for immediate family??? That's inhumane. I've missed a few days here and there due to his illness (taking him to appointments in the city etc.) And many of his appointments he goes…

“Kentucky employers must give employees a paid ten-minute rest break for each four-hour period they work. These breaks are in addition to the required meal break.” Does this mean that if I work 8 hours (1pm – 9pm) I get one unpaid 30 and 2 paid 10 minute breaks? Or only one of each since I'm technically only working 7 1/2 with the unpaid break? It says in addition to the required meal break, so I'm a little confused. I can't ask my managers as they are very confrontational, petty and frankly dont know the la or laws themselves, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I left my last job, I put in a two week notice. I was told that the CEO wanted to meet with me. I assumed it was to tell me bye, but nope. It was because he intended to fire me before my notice was up. I found out that he does that when people leave his company. Fortunately that didn’t work out due to scheduling conflicts, and I worked my two weeks without any word from the CEO.
