i've been working with them for 6 months (university campus dining) already and i do not like it at all. the pay is so bad and management is hostile. the orientation really set the mood for the type of job that it was going to be, threatening to fire us like 5 different times if we took the leftovers home or didn't clock out for our mandatory 30 minute break….

I work from home due to my diagnosis making me unable to drive. My work setup has 5 different things that have to be plugged in all at the same time or most of it won't work. I have been using a UPC that was given to me from the company. It recently broke down making me unable to operate my setup. Up on reaching out to my manager Ive been told the equipment is being phased out and I have to find a solution myself. But it has to be able to support the equipment and have a battery like the UPC. I told my manager that the company should be paying for whatever I buy due to the fact that the company equipment broke and now I'm unable to operate anything unless I buy something I didn't need to before. They claim I need to have an operable…
Federal withholding on commission.
Hourly employee who is also paid a monthly commission on sales goals and percentages. Normal paychecks have fed, soc sec, medicare and state tax taken out. Commision checks however only have soc sec, medicare and state taxes NO FED TAXES. H.R. say you need to fix yout W4. But im thinking either company is ignorant of law or is pocketing that money and not paying to the IRS. THOUGHTS????
i've been sick since monday and it's just been getting worse. i've been feverish, sore throat, congested, headache. i've been using at home tests for covid that have been negative, but i feel like that's what it is. i work for a remote call center and the condition i'm in isn't optimal for talking on the phone with people for 8 hours a day. i'm still not better and feel like i need to call in again tomorrow but i'm so scared i'm gonna lose my job. it's horrible that i can lose my job due to something i can't control. but i also don't want to work at a place that will fire me for such things. why does having a job in the us have to be like this?
I don’t know if it’s covid, or this nebulous recession hanging over our heads, or what… but I’ve seen multiple companies start revoking benefits they previously offered. If there were clear and obvious problems with these things being abused, if they were somehow spending substantially more money on these benefits than expected… okay, whatever. But a lot of things make absolutely no sense to me. Forcing everyone to return to an office if they don’t need to – why? Offices cost money, and people are less productive. It’s a huge cost savings to have people work remotely if they’re able to. Cutting back on benefits like sick time, PTO – again, why? If you’re seeing output/performance issues from employees, reducing their ability to take time off and get away from their work is going to make them even less productive… The layoffs have been insane, and probably not necessary, but…
Minimum wage in the country vs city
I wanted to continue a discussion on this topic but either the thread got locked or Reddit broke for me. We were discussing the cost of minimum wage (based on a living wage) needing to be lower for people in the country because housing is cheaper out there and it would damage small businesses to make them pay a city living wage due to their traffic and costumer base in the country. Now I disagree that this is an issue, and here I'm gonna outline why. This is a copy of what I wanted to say before I wasn't able. I really feel like I need to post it since I put so much thought into it. I grew up in the country so I feel like I have an idea of what it's like to have to travel to get stuff. The closest Walmart to me was 45 mins…
I work remote year round. Am a big introvert, only have one or two calls a day that are one-on-one, so this is a great setup. I like my job a lot, the pay is good, and I have a good boss. However, once a year my company has everyone come into the office for a whole work week to watch presentations on the state of the business, business goals, etc. And it is literally an introverts nightmare and I almost want to quit. I have to wake up an hour earlier than I’m use to to shower, get dressed + groomed, to sit through presentation after presentation with just small breaks here and there. I don’t really know anyone since I’m remote so I don’t have friends (which I don’t really gaf about but it sucks when in person). I’m already drained as shit as it is, but then…
