I do don’t want to be “that” coworker. My desk mate’s ringtone is the same as my recently passed mother. It’s a nightmare for me. I haven’t said anything or shown any emotion about it. Is it appropriate to ask her if she could change it? I’m willing to pay for a special song if she wanted? I’m not quite a boomer and I don’t want to look like an idiot. Social norms are changing and I don’t want to step in it. Suck it up? Get her the favorite muffin and ask?

Are all jobs roughly the same?
TLDR: I recently relocated from Texas to NYC for what I thought was a “dream job” or maybe a better way to word it my first salaried job with benefits. Turns out it’s not like I had expected. I hate it. This is partially because the job wasn’t described well and partially because my office keeps losing people to burnout so my job duties just keep expanding with no compensation. After a particularly frustrating day I scheduled an interview with another company for a job that is a reasonable facsimile for what I do, it’s just in Portland Oregon. I know this company would be much better about keeping my job duties limited to my job description; it’s a small company where I have friends that all rate their job satisfaction well. My question is: Is it a bad idea to relocate for another job? Are all jobs roughly the…
Help or advice of any kind
Hello, my name is Josiah I am 24 and am desperately searching for any kind of advice or help on finances. The last 4 years have been brutal because of a car accident that left me super deficient in many of the emotional departments because the steering wheel bag didn’t deploy and left me to take the blunt of the hit on my forehead. Left me with a fun little dent and a few years of a lot of anguish and pain. This reason is why it has been extremely difficult to be proficient in finding streams of revenue or a good paying job. I come here to ask for absolutely any real advice or help on some possible things to pursue or do to bring me income. I understand it’s not that simple as are most things but am finally seeing some improvement with my mental state and I…
My agency made new policies that would make people lose their health insurance in 2 pay periods if they don’t meet productivity hours. It’s made me interested in unionizing. Im curios how much my company is making off us and if it’s more about the company doing poorly or being greedy that they started this new company policy. Anyone know of a way to find out how much they make?
Fake job titles to avoid paying overtime
Saw this interesting piece today and am not surprised at all: Companies are handing out fake job titles Ever heard of a Chief Fun Officer or a Happiness Engineer? According to research for the National Bureau of Economic Research, these made-up titles are used to avoid paying workers overtime. Federal law requires companies to pay overtime unless an employee’s pay meets a certain threshold or their job duties are managerial according to specific criteria set out by law. That’s why, to cut overtime costs, many businesses have been assigning non-managers job titles that imply managerial duties, even if none exist. For example, a front-desk receptionist is referred to as the Director of First Impressions. Researchers estimate that over 70,000 U.S. employees who are categorized as managers should be receiving overtime pay and that they are missing around 13.5% of their annual wages. Refusing to pay overtime to qualified employees is a…
