During my end of my year review, my supervisor announced that they were bringing me along to a new area within my department that they are going to lead. They said it’s a good opportunity for me since I will help them lead this new team but they never discussed this opportunity or asked me if I even wanted this. I’m good where I am and don’t want to go through this change. I feel like I have no control over my own career lol
PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND!!!!
So, I work in fast food and was given the title of AM, Assistant Manager. First time I’ve been AM, not the first management job. But prior I was on hourly, with this title I will be now on salary. I was told I’m required to work now 50 hours a week. Which I’m okay with for now, I’m still testing the waters. But I looked at my paystub, I can see it a couple days in advance, and it says I am getting paid for 40 hours. What?? Is this normal/ legal? I worked over 50 hours last week. I’m frustrated because that would mean 11:24 hours I worked was for free for my franchise owner? Which is so wrong. This is upsetting to me if they can legally do this. I’m so confused. Can someone please help me understand?
I have a manager who in the past has been clear about not hiring workers based on Visa status. This has always bugged me, as I am in a place where there are a lot of Visa workers who struggle for work, and we definitely do not have a surplus of workers. I now have proof in writing of her saying she doesn't hire people who work under an I-9 Visa. I don't know a whole lot about labor laws but I'm pretty sure this is illegal. Is there anything I can do about this legally? How could I go about reporting this. Or is it not worth the time and would just be ignored.
“Because of the worker storage in Iowa, some are saying that possibly increasing wages may be the best incentive” REAAALLLLYY?? you guys JUST figured this out and even then you guys think it’s ‘possibly’ the answer? NO, it IS the answer. You can’t expect people who live on unemployment to get a job when they would make less at a job and already struggle to make it by with unemployment. That’s just stupid.
My mom worked for a small company for the past 6 years. The company consisted of her, the owner (the boss I want to convince her to block), the owner's father, and the owner's wife. She mainly worked with Quickbooks. From what I understand, they treated her well for the most part, as well they should've since she busted her ass for them. She worked after she was in a major car accident that shattered her wrist (with some help from me, but still), gave up time with her family to help them, and dealt with the owner's terrible punctuality. They hardly ever gave raises, and by the time she left she was only making $4 more per hour than when she started. Every time she asked, they gave her the runaround “oh we're working on it” type of response. Eventually my mom got a job offer from another…
Annual Strategy Meeting
For a little bit of background, I'm a software developer at a medium sized tech company (about 500 employees). Recently we had our annual company strategy meeting. The C-level people and the department heads talked about the direction. As a person who does enjoy their job, myself and a bunch of my colleagues really were getting excited over the new plans and techs that we would be getting to work on. It was revealed that our CEO has some lofty expansion goals, a 4x revenue increase for the company by the end of the year. At the end of the meeting, they had a Q&A session, during which someone asked if we would be hiring more developers to help undertake the extra workload that we would be getting due to these projects – there's no way that we can reasonably handle these new projects with our existing workload. Our CEO…
“What is your personal brand?”
Fuckin shoot me. 34 (almost 35) went back to school after working 5 years at a bank. Went on stress leave and ended up quitting, hence the back at school thing. I’m in year 2 of a 3 year program- sports management. It’s a business degree. Marks have been fine (85ish average) but I have no real sense of what I want to do after. We have a careers class all about “discovering your passion” and “what is your personal brand” Bruh I don’t have one. I have no passion, I have no idea what my skills are. I don’t have a personal brand. I don’t want a personal brand. I don’t want to stand out. I just want to make enough money to live at a job where I don’t actively think about unaliving myself. We live in a capitalist hellscape and why are we talking about banal shit…
Anyone know of any laws/regulations for this? I’m an hourly retail worker we do not have anything resembling being “on call”. Today I got a call at 6am from my boss but I didn’t answer because I was asleep. The boss left no voicemail. Then a few hours later they called me from another workers phone and left a voicemail asking me to call her back to explain how to do something. Then a few hours later I got ANOTHER call from them on another employees phone. I didn’t answer any of them because I don’t answer work calls when I’m off. I’ll listen to a voicemail if they leave one and decide if I’m willing to call them back. It’s retail, nothing is life or death so there’s absolutely no reason to call me on my day off. To me, my time is my own. Just wondering if there…
My Anti Work Poem for Everyone
Eventually even Very Reputable Employers get You angry People are Eager to Really learn and Support the company Objectives but still Never shown respect One day though… Never mind Try as you might He, “the man” Is your master Surrender Sometimes it can seem Unbelievable But it’s true I give my Sweat and tears Regrettably though Even after everything Try as I may Am trampled Repeatedly Day in and day out Eventually leading to my Demise
