Getting fired for giving discount
Im probobly getting fired for giving out 3 discounts to people i know. Had they been strangers, this would have been OK. I have a meeting with bosses and the union soon. At the same time, my colegue who sexually harrassed coworkers keeps his job. Its all about the money.
Alright so here goes: I currently work for a large corporation that is very well known. I'm not sure a hostile environment suit would work but here's what I have so far. During a Christmas outing my team had a public “prayer” where we blessed the food. I was the only one (as a non Christian) that did not participate. This left me feeling left out and honestly concerned my coworkers would treat me differently for being different. I am the only male in my team, and the only white person. While this isn't a problem, I'm constantly subjected to hearing about baby daddies and how “all men” are like this. (keep in mind, I have no children, have never gotten a girl pregnant so I definitely don't fit this stereotype). I've also been called a “big man” by coworkers even though I am very small, and had comments made…
So I'm not sure if this is standard practice, but I accepted a new job yesterday and was going to put in my two weeks today. I have about 10 days of unused personal/vacation time which is normally paid out to me at the end of the fiscal year. I assumed if I gave my two weeks that I would be paid out my unused hours, but looking at my employee manual I apparently I am required to give 30 days or else I forfeit all unused hours. I already told my new employer that I will start in two weeks. Should I call in sick for several days to use of those hours and then give notice only for the remaining 4 days? I have nothing especially against my current boss and would feel a little guilty, but I don't want to just throw those personal hours away. What…
I'm 29, moved states with no savings a year ago and then met the love of my life. We both work hard, we both want to buy a house more than anything else, but we're already doing everything we can just to make rent. I'm constantly changing jobs due to poor treatment everywhere, I have no degree and have never been able to decide a career – just always get a job. She is a barber. I'm positive a mortgage wouldn't cost substantially more than we pay for rent, and I even think we can catch our credit scores up (or at least one of them). But how do you earn a down payment? Does anyone have anything that works? She can't work two jobs (fibromyalgia makes the one she has hard enough) and when I get burnt out I become depression incarnate so sustainable options are it. Trade school?…
So in my area we were expecting a big snow storm, about 8″-11″, so my job told us we'd run based on whether or not the schools closed. The schools closed last night and we were told it would be a “work from home day” today at 9p last night. Today I get up at 9a and see a message from 730a saying the roads aren't that bad and we need to go in to ship pallets. Majority of my team that is scheduled today isn't able to make it in at this point, and I don't plan on going in either based on principle. Why do these company's think they have the authority to change your work schedule on a whim based on whatever they need to fix at the current second based on their previous poor decision making?
