I know employers & colleges typically look at people who volunteer with organizations as prospective good employees at least I thought so. Anyway I have a career job interview coming up and besides all the bullshit that comes with work and not liking work Id like to know anyone’s perspective on the subject of saying I spend my free time being an advocate and speaking at events. I go to rehabs and speak to the people there about how to get life right and try to be inspirational from time to time which I think would be good to show dedication and work outside of work, but the topic of addiction is not a good one in a lot of peoples eyes and could see me (a recovering addict) as potential trouble/liability. Anyway I would like to use advocacy as a way to say I am a “good person” and…

Seriously , has anyone talked to the nurses on the phone and they ask the same question 3 different times hoping you will be lying . No wonder why so many people with injuries continue to work .
I work 60+ hours a week which in comparison to other jobs I've heard of, it's not that much. With commuting, it goes to 75+ ( 1.5 hour commute each way). I don't have the financial security to quit and my job is too understaffed for vacation days. I really struggle detaching from work. On weekdays I completely lose my sex drive and am a nervous wreck. Sometimes this carries into weekends. The stress and anxiety also makes me more prone to infections and getting sick, so I spend days off at the doctor. There is also little time to keep in good physical shape which lowers my self image. Some days I don't have time to shower or take care of myself. How do you all do it?
Over the past year and a half, I have not worked a full time job. I've had 20 to 30 hour work weeks, and it's still exhausting! Working a 6 hour shift is enough for me. Like. I couldn't see the point of working a 8 to 10 hour shift and only getting paid $10 an hour. I could see the purpose if it was paying $16+ an hour. I'm trying to get back to working full time. I am seeking a full time job, but the opportunities and choices are awful at the point.
Screwing over the best employees
My wife works for commission + base. For several years she has won awards for the highest sales in her province. She did this by working long hard hours and she enjoys her job. People who worked with her were constantly complaining they could not make enough money. Enough people complained so the company decided to rework the compensation structure. They raised the base rate and lowered the commission. This helped a lot of the workers which is a good thing of course but totally fucked over my wife. She lost more than 20% of her annual income. She told management that in trying to help employees they should not hurt their biggest producers. They told her they had to make it a blanket change and there was nothing they could do. Now she doesn't put in half the effort she used to.
So it's not 1 to 1 what I was told but the thing is. Our company is doing it's year recap party and I said I'm not going this time(I went to all the rest) The party is 1h drive(they offer us busses) and it's pretty much until the night plus we got work the day after. I told my boss I don't want to go because its pretty much will mean I get home really late and I get car sickness if I'm not driving. And he told me “the CEO is organizing this party and you should show up as a sign of respect to him and it's only ones a year so you should be fine”. I'm still not going but now after he said it I really don't want to go. Not to go into much detail but ever since our new CEO got in we…
