Thoughts on Tipping?
Great way to earn a extra few bucks at your job… or a form of emotional exploitation from the company to offset salaries for the consumers to pay it forwards to the employees to continue making record-breaking profits for the company.
What keeps you at your job?
I genuinely love what I do! Coworkers are fucking awesome, direct managers are wonderful…. Upper management can go fuck themselves and make for high turnover because of how they act. I work 50-60 hours a week and travel daily, my coworkers are really what keep me going.
If you work from home, do you actually work 8 hours? 5 hours? How does this compare to how many hours you would put in if you went to the office? EDIT: To comment on my own situation, I work a hybrid schedule. I do 2 days at the office and 3 days at home. When I am in the office, I am there “working” for 8 hours, but in reality am only working 6 hours between visits to the bathroom, friend’s desks, the kitchen, etc. When I work from home, I put in a solid 7 at least when you subtract breaks.
“You’re interviewing the employer too”
Does anyone else feel like this is a weird idiom that falsely grants workers more agency than they really have? It reminds me of telling poor people that if you don’t like the wages in your neighborhood you can simply move. As if workers are in a position to choose their jobs rational consumer style instead of facing a system of work or starve/work or have no healthcare, etc. Maybe it only applies to white collar workers ¯_(ツ)_/¯
