i hate admitting that i'm really new to the world, but i am, and the way i was raised did nothing to help that. i've only been learning about anticapitalism and human rights for a few years now, so i'm still unfamiliar with these things and unsure when i've spotted a red flag or if i'm just jumpy. that said, i'm in the middle of online training for a senior caregiving position (16usd an hour pay), and one of the instructional videos listed accepting tips and/or gifts from a client as unethical. the lady gave reasons such as “you're already getting paid for your work” and “it might seem like you're taking bribes” (whatever that means), and those statements were setting alarm bells off in my head. am i right to feel suspicious about that? like it feels really sinister in a “we don't want you to make more money…
Days of the Week
I hate to be so pessimistic, but, is the only reason we have “days of the week”, is so that we can distinguish between work days and non-work days? I can’t imagine that in a system where we have placed a specific value upon days – down to the fucking numerical day of the year – somehow it’s important that today is “Monday”. If July 1, 1999 had been Monday and not Saturday, the only people who benefited were gamblers and employers. Am I too cynical?
How generous!
But the handbook says
The old employer that I used to work for back in the day in the handbook it stated if employee comes to you asking for a raise or needing money, most likely due to either a drug addiction or a gambling problem the fuck I guess I shouldn’t say this was back in the day after Covid times I should’ve automatically seen this place as a red flag when I read that I really should’ve started a union there!!!
