Removed from site after I asked for a letter stating that. We are a 'barehand' lineman electrical crew, who constantly deals with 69kV-500kV live lines, so an AED is the cornerstone of our 1st Aid kit. In Oct. of 2022, I mentioned that our AEDs on-site were expiring early 2023. I was told corporate was purchasing new ones to distribute when we returned to work this week. Monthly safety meeting and I ask what the status is of the new units, I was told there is a delay and to continue using existing units 'until the red wrench illuminates' on the unit, even though they have expiration dates stamped on pads. I asked for a letter to put with machines and told its just verbal. Meeting ends abruptly and I am immediately called afterwards and told that I am being replaced.

Is it too much to ask for? Why do we have to enslave ourselves to a building/institute till we’re old and worn out to retire? Why can’t we enjoy our youth, or whatever is left of it while we still can? I think grind culture has us so conditioned to thinking we’re on top of the totem pole socially if we’re working till our hair is falling out. Some people are barely keeping themselves afloat, degree and all. Grind and hustle culture is so toxic telling people they must miss out on the fun and the beauties of life to make money they have to give back to the system. It’s crazy.
