I’m told I need a doctor’s excuse or I get docked pay

I am a teacher at a charter school in an urban district. we get 3 sick days in my district, which I feel is insane to begin with. I've had bronchitis for 3 weeks now, and missed the entire week before Christmas because of it. it won't go away, and I have had a history of severe lung issues from bronchitis that have led to a collapsed lung and pleurisy. I went to urgent care yesterday to get meds, and will be starting my second round of steroids and a round of antibiotics today. I was feeling ~better~ yesterday so I only asked them to sign a doctor's excuse for yesterday's missed work, not a preemptive day for today. But last night I took a bad turn, and I texted my admin early in the morning that I wouldn't be able to come in for the first few blocks, but…

should I apply and interview for jobs to help others?

Hey fellow redditors, I'm thinking about what if we, the worker bees, begin applying extra pressure on companies to offer fully remote, higher salary positions. Now hear me out, what if Software Devs / Engineers / Accountants / anyone who's job can be compartmentalize into giving work to an individual who works on a computer AND is currently working remote. Those groups of people respond to recruiters who offer competitive salary. Go through the interviews (remotely), and once they give a salary range, or hybrid roles, we all say no. The recruiters will go back to the hiring managers, we can't get an entry level accountant without 150k, fully remote and 2 months off of vacation per year. The salary has been driven by the market, why not push it some more in our favor in this 40 years of peak profits for large 0 paying tax entities?

My company added me to their payroll system too late to be paid in time for Christmas, but I can have my last 2 months pay in a week or so if I pay extra tax on it!

Emotionally abusive shift lead and ignorant management

I've been working in a fast food restaurant for half a year now. For the past few shifts, the shift lead I work with has been giving me trouble gaslighting me and belittling my work performance. I can work as fast as humanly possible, and they would still tell me I'm “too slow” This isn't the first time I've dealt with this behavior from this specific shift lead. My whole time working, they would scold me for the littlest of mistakes and give me unnecessary rudeness all while putting on a good face and being nice to everyone else. I've had ex coworkers I've worked with that also had problems with the same shift lead, I remember having a couple of convos with them about it. They only worked for a short time before quitting. I'm pretty sure they tried talking with the manager about the situation, but little to…

Security company was pulling me from my post then mentioned I needed to train my replacement

This happened in October. The security company I was working for called to inform me that they were going to have to pull me from my post as per request from the client who, according to the company, were unspecific as to why this was happening. The manager who was telling me all of this told them they had something else lined, but it would be too far and didn't work with my wife's schedule, who also commuted with me to work. Since it didn't work for me, I decided to put in my 2 weeks' notice instead. This apparently surprised the manager, but he didn't argue. What's suspicious, though, is that this happened the day after I left work early because my wife took a fall at her job, which ended up hurting her knee that already has a permanent injury (torn ACL). The following week, a field supervisor…

This is Exhausting

Currently working 50 hours a week for the military and taking online classes (about 20 hours a week). All this just to get a job outside the military so I can live somewhat comfortable with my wife? This is fucking lame. I am perpetually exhausted trying to get my degree, get my certifications, get my work experience only to hopefully make 80k a year outside the military working in IT. By that time my 20s will be almost spent as i'll be 27 when I get out. Sorry just venting.
