The modern world can be a horribly alienating place, it's true. But that alienation stems from the fact that we aren't reliant on each other anymore, because we live in a culture of affluent individualism, even if that looks to be drawing to a close. Sure we rely on each other to carry out our separate tasks in an organised economy, but we don't need each other in the way we always have as a species. We can survive without any relationships, is what I'm getting at. Why spend your life complaining like a little baby? Can't you see that there is freedom inherent to our way of living, despite its fundamental lack of soul? You can literally do whatever you want, within reason. It would be great to live a more meaningful existence and also have the freedom to do whatever we want, but meaning is always forged out…

Not sure if this belong a here but in 2022 I was fired twice. Each time they said it wasn’t job performance and didn’t give a reason. I work hard, meet deadlines, complete my tasks and do my best to get a long with people. Now where I’m currently at my direct deposit didn’t hit my account…can’t help but think I’m going in today to face the music again. I hate how companies will just fire you for no reason (or won’t give you one) and get away with it. Maybe time to start doing something different?

i work at an unspecified restaurant chain that is most famous for buttery biscuits and seafood. i have a variety of physical issues with no clear diagnosis for anything but i go through a lot of intense pain and ive been using a cane on and off for about 3 years now. i was too ambitious with what i was physically capable of and while im super glad with the time ive spent here i am suffering mentally and physically more than i can handle. how do i phrase that i need to quit. ill be doing it over the phone, its my first legal job and i have a tendency to burst into tears when im nervous and i freak out when people see me cry, i feel like crying sneakily over the phone and them being none the wiser will be more comfortable for both of us. i…

I haven't employed for three years. I had 8 information technology and retail jobs in my life and the last job lasted 17 months. I'm on SSDI from brain damage, and I get medicare, medicaid. Work is a volunteer ticket to work thing. At my last job, I worked with cisco routers, switches, gateways so I could delete the cisco ios contents. I had a internship at a hospital where I put computers together. Then this warehouse starts laying people off, because it has best buy contracts for refurbishing cisco hardware, pcs, monitors, cables and such. They like hire men out of high school, but they also hire military. The military want promotion and they get it by putting servicemen in resume. I only have a few more months until my contract expires but I can’t keep going without venting. I work as a Resident Assistant in a state college. My job requires us to do trainings at the beginning of each semester, usually they involve reviewing policies and “team bonding.” However this semester’s training begins the Friday before MLK weekend and will continue on the following Saturday. We’ll have Sunday & Monday off but not the normal 3 day weekend. Why you ask? Because there’s so much content to cover in our training and apparently we NEED to cover all of it including “team bonding” because “we are like a family” in my department. Originally we scheduled that Saturday from 11am-4pm, but I pushed to move any available sessions to an asynchronous format or push any session towards our “packed” schedule during the weekdays. Hi everyone, not sure if my question can be answered or not. So I had 12/23 scheduled off since the beginning of august and was using pto for it. The week before I was sick with the flu and being out of pto they took that day that was already schedule and used it for when I was sick. My manager told me that I was still okay to take the day off since it had been schedule months ago. 12/23 comes and I don’t go to work. We’ll we were supposed to get paid for Monday 12/26 due to Christmas being a holiday. My paystub was not reflecting the holiday pay. I emailed my benefits team and they are saying because I’m on FMLA which I was placed on literally that week that. That I wouldn’t be getting the holiday pay because I took an unpaid day off the…

I work in a trade group that represents the interests of a very specific industry. I don’t want to name it to remain anonymous. But it’s not anything sketchy af like natsec or MLM, or chamber of commerce. My organization does a lot of good and supports organizations that does a lot of good. However, there are some practices that are relatively common/not unheard of that I disagree with. The benefits in my organization are really good and I make a decent salary, have a decent living (below average for my area but I feel comfortable). I also think everyone I work with has good intent. I tend to look at things black & white – good or bad, ethical or unethical. But I know that’s not realistic in the workplace. I’ve been working at my job for the past 7 years. I’ve really hated it since day 1. It’s a lot of data entry and customer service. It’s a job that equally mind numbingly tedious and cripplingly stressful: it’s unreasonable turn arounds, insane work loads, and a lot of the clients (buyers) do what they want without accountably and just make the people in my position fix it. The first couple years working there I tried to find a new job. Had a couple interviews, nothing came of them, so I decided to go back to school (I already have a BA in communications, which was a stupid idea itself). In 2019 I got certified in E-commerce because I thought that might open new doors, and it did! I got a job in E-Commerce. The company I work for recently changed their hybrid policy and made it mandatory to come in on Tuesdays – Thursdays, 8 times a month. They also changed their parking policy. Before, they did not charge for parking in the building’s garage. Now, they charge $15 a day to park. They will only reimburse $60 a month in travel expenses. This means that I’ll essentially be losing $60 a month in addition to already paying gas. Is this legal? Is there anything I can do about this?
