Yesterday there was a post on here that received a lot of attention because OP provided a 4 week notice to their company and they refused to accept it and advised OP that they would be listed as “not able to re-hire” and I saw a lot of uninformed jokes made by people who said “Oh GeE tHaNkS tHaTs KiNd Of ThE PoInT oF mE qUiTtInG” Something that became painfully aware to me is that people on this subreddit don’t understand what this means from an HR perspective. When you use references from previous companies something the HR representative from your potential new company will ask while checking on the reference is “Would you re-hire this person?” Which is a way for the new company to ask your old company if you were let go for some reason or if you were a “problem” employee. The reason they word it…

refusing to accommodate
I started working at a new job a couple of weeks ago and just finished my training. For context I’m technically a senior in high school but I take online college courses so I am able to work mornings. I work as a host there, which is what most of the high school students do so I assumed that on the weekends they would probably have them working. However I told them that I would like to work on the weekdays only so I have the weekends to catch up on school work and visit my friends and boyfriend that live an hour away from me. To which I was told that they had to be accommodating to the high schoolers (which I am one). Every other job I’ve had has been much more accommodating to this, and allowed me to trade shifts but I can’t do that here. Now…
Feeling guilty and frustrated about work
So, I've been working in retail for years at this point. I've been at my current job for a little over a year and, they've been pretty good to me. I got 2 separate raises ($3/Hr pay increase total) and they praise me for my work ethic and honesty. I feel like this is earned since I'm always putting in my best effort and when I do make mistakes, I always correct them pretty quickly. You're probably wondering about the title now, getting into that now. Although they've been great to me, the same can't be said for pretty much ANYONE else I work with. People who've been here for years more make a decent amount less than I do and are severely overworked all around. Not to mention the micromanaging and mistreatment people seem to face. Granted I deal with this too, but not nearly as much due to…
POV: You’re me. Working from home on one of your 2 remote days. Have to clock in 15 minutes early due to day after holiday. Have IBS & lactose intolerance. Plus taking stimulants for ADHD. Use the restroom before clocking in at 7:45. At 8:33 stomach says bathroom is needed again. Message from boss via teams (which I no longer have on my cell phone and obviously did not bring laptop to the bathroom lol) [typos and poor grammar included in messages from boss lol again] “hey how are you are you ok its 833 and your on break you ok” I don’t respond on teams. Text from boss at 8:35: “Hey where are u” Me: “I’m in the restroom.” Boss: “everything ok?” “Girl u need to go before u start ur morning lol” “Not right after u sign on” Me: “Okay, I do that too. Sorry.” “I am just…
I work at a company where our VP of IT is an extreme micromanager. Our manager approached our team about working from home over the holidays as we are very slow during the winter months. We made up a schedule and everything was good to go, until it reached the VP. Then he shut it down and said since I was 1 month away from a year he was going to make a new policy that you can't work from home until you have a year with the company (awesome since we all know that 12th month is when you really prove yourself to be trustworthy). He also put a ton of rules on what we have to do when we work from home, stuff that would be ridiculous for people to do in the office. I talked to the guys on the team and found out that we have…
Punished for being ill
I missed 1.5 weeks of work over the holidays. I was just about to get my health insurance and ability to accrue vacation time. I missed celebrating Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year's Eve, New Years. I couldn't even watch TV or listen to music, I was so sick. Just spent the days in bed or eating food. So, I come back and they switch me from full-time to part-time and I don't get insurance anymore or the ability to accrue vacation or personal days for the next three months.
can the boss ask you to mow his yard?
So I have this boss that keeps asking people to do random stuff at his house. Pressure wash the driveway, put up christmas lights, pick up leaves. (We all work outside so we are used to that) I just never heard of anyone doing this in another buisness.
