So the American healthcare system is interesting. I want positives and negatives on how you would improve on it. Or completely reinvent it. But you can’t just say “just throw it away” be practical.

Just my shoes
I work for a supermarket. They supply clean uniforms everyday,(great) we just I came into work a bit early to change onsite. The section I work in have a rack for street shoes right next to where we clock in. So we get changed, come downstairs, slip on our work shoes, clock in and head to our area. The other week I got told off when I clocked in before I changed shoes, about 5-10 seconds difference max. Does this seem petty to anyone else or am I just reading to much into it.
Started a new job back in September at a and was excited. I was very up front in interviews about work life balance being my top priority. I have health issues, and I’m also just not interested in killing myself for a corporation that doesn’t care about me. Boss assured me people have great WLB. The first week I start, I’m working until 9pm. They regularly reach out on holidays & weekends and beg us to work. It’s also not the work I signed up for — I’m supposed to be doing internal coms (which I handle on other accounts), and this is all media monitoring. I’ve had other jobs where I’ve had to sometimes work late and holidays, but at those places it was a genuine emergency (by job they said we’d all need to be available over holiday break because our client was open. I politely let them…
Treating Your Employees With Respect
It’s the most ridiculous thing ever. Have your phone on you at all times, ready to drop everything in your life for a job. And don’t forget, you don’t get paid any extra for this, “it’s in the salary”. What a joke.
About a week and a half ago my grandpa lost the fight to COVID and Dementia combined. I got the call Sunday before work but still went in for my shift. Told everyone I was feeling off because he died. Worked my Monday shift. Was really struggling Tuesday and confided that I wanted to go home to a coworker (one that had also worked with me on Sunday). My manager came in and asked me why I seemed off and when I told her she sent me home. Two shifts later my manager started making weird passive aggressive comments. When I finally got her to tell me she said that “multiple people” told her I was lying about my grandpa dying to get out of work. I basically had to beg her to believe me and said I’d bring his death certificate in before she seemed to get it. She…
Why can’t we do it all year?
I work in an office from 9-18, with one unpaid hour for lunch. From that 8 hours, i spend almost 90% of the time pretending to be busy. In summer, we spend two months working from 8-14. Everyone is happier, works more and it's much more efficient. Also the costumers adapt to the new schedule so there's no problem. To me, everything is better. We work better and we are happier. So my question is, why can't we do it all year? What's stopping my boss to do it? I simply don't understand it. Any opinions?
