so during the first interview the interviewer said that the second interview would include the STAR method, and just watching dome YouTube videos regarding the STAR method, just makes me want to scream. (for context I was a long time movie theater employee, until my location closed) Examples were like: When was a time you disagreed with your boss? And the only answer that comes to mind is a previous GM who promoted someone (we will call T) who I thought wasn't prepared for a supervisory position, turns out later T sexually harassed underage female staff. And instead of firing him the GM moved him to maintenance where he got paid more than me …until he quit when a tech found him just sitting on the computer in the projection booth. Another example question was tell me about a time you had conflict with a coworker and all I can…
strangest interview I’ve ever had
So I've been putting in applications pretty frequently and haven't heard from anyone until a few days ago for front desk work at a hotel. The owner/manager (I have no idea, there was never any clarification), who I'll call Sam, called me and we talked a little bit, initially setting the interview for the following Monday (it was Friday when I received the call). We continue talking for a bit, then she asks if I'm available that day to come in for an interview. Obviously not, and she then asks if I'm available for a Saturday interview instead. I agree to that and go on with the rest of my day. I'm very aware to be suspicious if employers seem desperate to get people working, and I certainly was. Saturday rolls around and the interview is supposed to start at 11. Not too early, not too late. A good time…
Just that. I’m pregnant and I work for a small nonprofit (much too small for FMLA or any other leave policy I’m aware of to apply). There is no employee handbook or manual and no leave policy whatsoever. It’s mainly been if you want some time off you can work a few extra hours one week and a few fewer the next. I think it has been possible to request some time off just you don’t get paid. I have not taken any time off because I can not afford to have a reduced paycheck. Even when there’s a holiday I’ve wanted to take off, like thanksgiving or new year’s, I’ve had to make up the hours I would have worked those days throughout the rest off the week. New executive director just began in November, says she is working with the board to create a leave policy, and gave…
How to make a living not working?
My partner and I really want to get out of the grind. We both work part-time retail. Me, at a local art supply store, with a fantastic boss, lots of flexibility, great schedule, and no complaints on my end. I just know I can't be there forever and need more money eventually. I also volunteer at galleries/museums/community resource things/etc. I had a grant writing internship at a nonprofit that was paying well, but was let go due to funding issues which was quite discouraging as well. My partner though works legal cannabis. Has 10+ years growing experience but the industry has gone to such trash. Constantly underpaid and never valued for knowledge, always just general labor in some shitty commercial grow-op. He's now working retail (which he is way overqualified for, but thought may be better than growing) and they keep cutting his (shite) hours and the customer base here…
I don't agree with AI art stealing peoples works and reproducing them differently. If it's public use or via consent, then fine. Artists can use their own art in AI so I see no problem with the technology whatsoever. It's like any other tool. I like it but I don't want to see it misused. I feel like AI is hated beyond this issue alone. Like people are genuinely angry that they might lose their accounting position to AI one day. Which honestly I don't mind. I don't mind if AI takes all of your jobs and any job that's ever needed. I think it's a good thing and needed rather. There will always need to be maintainers and designers to act as the brain to everything AI and robotics does, but the vast majority of humanity will be able to enjoy modern living without labor.
