Some context: we have about 250 employees across multiple restaurants, all within driving distance of one another. The meeting was between all salaried managers, i.e. GMs, District, office staff, etc. (Yes, I'm in that group. Supporting a family of 9, this is the only way I can feed my family rn and not lose my house, is to be this high up the food chain. I still get shit for pay, and I act as a liaison for my team and go to bat for them on a daily basis to get them raises and benefits. Fuck ALL of you who spew this random “managers can't be one of us” bullshit. We are trying to survive this hellscape just like you, and I honestly get the short end of the stick WAY more often than any other service worker I know so that my team doesn't have to deal with…
Could this be a double standard?
Alright so, a little back story: I work as a DSP (Direct support professional) in a group home. We have this book used for communication for the clients, things the house needs, etc…. Anyways, my boss wrote a 3 page note front and back. She went on to say that we need to be keeping up on laundry, dishes, changing the personal trashes after each care is done, and making sure that all side tasks are being done. She also mentioned that if this is getting Done on shift then there shouldn’t be anything being left for other people to be doing from your shift. Well every day I come into work NONE of that is getting done. Leaving extra work for evening staff to do, then the overnight staff. It just makes me so mad to basically come in, read our log, and have my day ruined by her…
Keeping Slack Status Active
I started working from home in 2020 and still haven’t found a reliable solution to the Slack status problem. I work in STEM. My work involves a lot of thinking and research. It does not require me to be available unless I have meetings. That said, I always am available during business hours, with notifications on LOUD, in addition to the work that I do outside business hours (which is when I can focus). Trouble is, colleagues/bosses interpret an inactive status as genuinely slacking off. I’ve been called out on it before, E.g. “I wanted to ask you something, but you were offline, so I didn’t message you.” (????) “I don’t know if you’re working or not, your slack status is the only indication that I have.” (What about my output?) The slack green dot is my main performance complaint — which would be fine, except that it gets used…
Not me man…
Is COVID a workplace injury

I’m resigning in the AM!
Thanks to a few of you wise Redditors, I looked for and found a new position with my current company’s competitor and will be tuning in my 2 week notice tomorrow. I’m going to tell them I’m taking time off to enjoy my granddaughter and may take my social security check since I just turned 62. In reality, on my final day of the two week notice, I fly to another city for three days of training. I’m taking the high road and not going to rant about the crazy stuff that some of the managers put us through. Any thing I should be aware of or prepare for when I resign? I haven’t quit a job in years!
The next wave of stuff for a new generation to grow up in will be intelligently interacting with information systems “engines”. You need to learn how to use search engines well, in addition to stuff like AI art and whatnot. This isn't something that I want to see happen for capitalist reasons. I am giving you a warning about time, if you're young. Why? Because AI-driven interfaces are coming up through stuff like OpenAI's chatbot. The actual use of AI-driven art won't be to replace artists for individual art pieces. No one will really care about that by the time it's done. Eventually, you'll be able to tell an AI interface a scene with actions between characters, and the thing will produce that scene. With enough tweaking, it can be pretty reliable for a specific purpose. That means that there will be specifically designed bots where the underlying “personality” of…
Few years back I was working in a sales position for a company that had a takeover and received a new management team. When the new management team came in they threw a Christmas party (hadn’t been one the year before). Management told sales team holiday party gifts were field people to not put our raffle tickets in any of the items we wanted just keep in our pocket……… k fine whatever. Then 3/4 of the way through the new ceo stands up gives a speech and promptly said “the sales team wants to personally commit to growing the business in the new year so that we will all earn more.” Then the fucker by name calls us each and ask us what our commitment to the field guys to get more sales. Mind you thick fucker had never meet with or talked with the sales team just the managers…
