So for context, I work in the city as an EMT in a private company, not somewhere like FDNY or a federally funded agency. We as EMT’s are being run into the ground with call after call, and the dispatchers ride us like no tomorrow. We are never given an opportunity to eat unless we beg like children for the idea of getting the food. I have hurt myself multiple times on the job because of their lack of respect towards EMT’s. I try asking for an extra pair of hands and they respond by demanding that I try to be a man about lifting someone who weighs 360+ pounds down a flight of steep stairs. We also get watched like children. Getting food without permission? Write up. Leaving the truck without permission? Write up. Going back home after your off-time without asking if you can leave? Write up. Real “the bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do” vibes. I’m getting to the point where I come home everyday and start rage applying to multiple jobs to places where I’m not even an EMT because SeniorCare has ruined everything about being an EMT for me. I’m miserable and injured and they only care if I’m awake enough to work
