I work in a union environment with pay levels. Like level A, level B, etc.
I have been at my level for a long time. I was offered a position to take a position at a higher level, but only on a temporary basis. This would come with a pay bump to that level, however there's a kind of “training wage” which actually brings my pay down below what I am making right now for at least two years.
I talked to a couple of colleagues about wanting to turn it down if I get a cut in pay, and they told me that despite the pay cut, I can use the experience on my resume and I should do it just for the experience.
What? More responsibility for less pay and “experience”?
Yeah, no.
