So – me and the missus went to one of our local wine bars for a bite to eat and a couple of glasses of white the other day. Had a nice time. But when I went to pay the bill, something a little odd (and kinda cool) happened.
The owner took out two separate EFT terminals, and said “this one is for the drinks, this one is for the food”.
I asked why. He said “I couldn’t keep a chef – so many left the trade during Covid. I had to think of another way to keep the kitchen open. So, I run the bar, and the chef runs the kitchen. She keeps the money for all the food sales and we share overheads. It’s working pretty well.”
Pretty cool – my man (kinda sorta) handed the means of production to his workers. He’s accidentally formed a co-op.
