I'm a bartender.
For Saint Paddys weekend, we were given a target of 35k. We went over it, and took in 38k. We totally smashed our sales, and were one of the highest takers in the entire company. 7th out of 120 pubs.
I work minimum wage. I had to work 16 hours on Saint Paddys, then 11 hours yesterday. All my co-workers are in the same boat as me. I also have to work again today, but at least its only 5 hours.
We were all entitled to a hour long break on Saint Paddys, but we only had 40 minutes as it was so busy. Illegal, I know.
We also don't get a bonus. It doesn't matter that we smashed our target, we don't get a bonus. Our bosses have said that our 'bonus' goes towards our staff party, happening next week, but that staff party is our (late) Christmas party. So, which is it?
I'd much rather have a cash bonus, than booze, but okay.
I'm so tired of working a minimum wage job and getting nothing. No bonuses, barely any praise. I'm not even allowed my full break.
And for anyone saying 'just find another job,' I can't. I've been searching my area for the past few months, and all other bartending jobs are minimum wage. I'm also doing an apprenticeship at my job, which will get me a nice hospitality degree, which might help push for a higher role/salary once I find something better.
In the mean time, I just have to walk around with a limp from being on my feet for 27 hours in 2 days.
I hate everything.
