I work at a dance studio in North MS, and live In Tennessee about 35 min away.I am salaried and normally make around 400$ a week which is now 350 she is saying this is because the students aren’t here paying tuition so we have less money and she claims she spent a bunch on the recital and we are broke now, she did not give any notice, she just cut our pay. It is really difficult on me because of the gas.We are over all working fewer hours during the summer, however she is making me run theses dance camps and I am driving here an extra day with less money when I was barely making enough to get by. The camps are 8 hours and I am the only teacher required to be at work doing it, my boss claims she is working from home, but is probably just doing whatever she wants. Everyone else is off and still getting paid still. I started 3 years ago and I had been given a raise in January which she took away, also with no notice because I was sick (we are given zero sick days) and took a day off (called and told her of course) I feel like these pay cuts without notice are illegal, I also feel like she takes advantage of me by making me come in and stay extra hours with out pay around recital time and she makes me prepare a typed lesson plan for every class which I am supposed to do at home which takes 3-4 hours also without pay. During recital season I also do a ton of outside work because I have to type up lineups and formations ( took over 30 hours) I also have to do that from home for free. When I ask her about my pay cuts she acts like she spoils me and I’m just trying to be greedy, I live with my parents because I can’t afford rent because I don’t make enough, and i think she thinks I don’t need it because I live with my parents which is extremely hard on my mental health. Sorry for the rant, but does anyone know if labor laws are being broken? I feel you need to tell people before a pay cut. And just asking me to do extra stuff from my house without pay on my days off and free time seems wrong, I feel she is being sneaky and taking advantage of us. She is also a millionaire and lives in a mansion in the country club neighborhood. Her daughter rides hourses and has a horse, but they spent 100000$ on a new race horse because hers is too slow, I have a feeling this is why I’m getting a pay cut.
