The business that I work at has a tradition of closing early the day before Thanksgiving and sending support staff home. This is obviously something that is discussed among the partners ahead of time. And still, my particular boss was “remote” in the morning and then she waltzed into the office at 12:45pm and acted as if she was shocked to hear that the managing partner had sent out a company wide email telling support staff that the office would close at 1:00pm and to please enjoy the holiday. What really ticks me off is that she tried to act as if she didn't know about the closing and she came at me with “But we need to do X,Y and Z today.” This is not the first holiday that she's done this to me. I had anticipated this and had prepped everything in advance so I was able to finish those tasks by 1:30pm and then I grabbed my coat and let my boss see that I was leaving. “Hold on a minute!” she said. “We still need to do X.” I turned to her and calmly said “(Fellow supervisor who was not dismissed like support staff) can assist with that.” My boss looked quietly stunned, which I take as a win. I've been watching a bunch of these “toodaloo” tik toks about holding firmer boundaries in the workplace and I'm really striving to stiffen my spine.
