Just took a new job in March, at the beginning of April on an all-hands Zoom call, we were told that we switched over to a new PEO system (using some company called Justworks) and a mistake was made so none of us will be able to contribute to our 401Ks until 2023.
I took this job on the agreement of certain benefits. We only have 10 USA employees and most of us live in California.
I feel like their fuckup just robbed us of a huge chunk of our future wealth, considering the power of compounded interest that we're missing out on. I'm in my mid-30s, I've got at least another 2 decades before I can retire.
They apologized and said, “We made a mistake, there's nothing we can do.”
Is there anything we can do? I'd like to unionize the American staff at the very least.
*I just found out this company doesn't have an HR dept, IT dept, or a Payroll dept and our “HR guy” lives in India. Fucken startups.
