One of the shift leads at my job is trying to limit/deny my bathroom usage because I “take to long”. I use the bathroom 2-3 times per 8-9 hour shift. Each time usually takes about a minute.
However some days, I end up taking longer, because my body has decided that it would be the perfect time to evacuate everything I've eaten at once. This usually results in about a ten minute bathroom stay.
My boss is aware that I have some bodily issues and is accommodating. I still only go 2-3 times during my shift. These trips just take a bit longer. I don't take my phone with me as proof that I'm not on it.
The shift lead in question doesn't seem to care about this and thinks I'm just being lazy. Whenever we work together he'll call me over the intercom less than minute after I reach the bathroom to make me hurry up.
I haven't brought this up with our boss yet, mostly because I haven't had shift working with him yet.
I can't control when my stomach/bowels act up. I feel guilty when they do because a coworker has to stop their tasks to take over the register while i fight my personal demons in the bathroom. Diet changes don't seem to help.
Aren't there labor laws about this sort of thing? I live in Florida if that helps.
