I have recently started working in a warehouse and on my first day I was informed that taking food or water inside of the warehouse is prohibited. This is the first time I am facing something like this as usually you are fine as long as it’s a certain type of bottle etc. There is a water station inside with the cups but it does take a bit of time to get there as it’s located right at the entrance and the warehouse itself is quite big.
Now my issue is that I am used to drinking 2l+ water per day and I become thirsty really quick especially in the morning and whilst I don’t mind the walk there are certain things that may become an issue in my opinion
a) there are always targets to be met at work and this will cut my time significantly
b) simply not a good image leaving my workstation every hour whilst being a new employee as we are all a bit under the radar on first days, they also might see it as an excuse and say that I like to waste my time /don’t want to work etc
This is all happening in Uk and it’s a big distribution centre with a lot of warehouses around Uk. Is this even legal? Is this nonsense? I can’t figure it out on my own. What are your opinions?
