OK so I'm scheduled to get my wisdom teeth out this Wednesday.
I work as a swim teacher at a swim school.
I was told to find people to cover my shifts for it. Really should be the managers job, but whatever. So I'm asking around and texting everyone who doesn't work the days I do and telling them I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out. I have two people currently who I think will be able to take my shifts, but they're still figuring everything out and seeing if they have the time for it. No issue, the shifts are next week and I have time.
The shift I have the day I'm supposed to get my wisdom teeth out is the one bothering me. It's a Wednesday morning shift, 8:30am to 2:00pm. I was told this shift was overstaffed last Wednesday and told not to come in so I don't think it'll be that big of a deal if I'm not there for it.
But I'd still like to have it covered just in case. Issue is, none of my coworkers I've asked to fill it in are answering me. I've told my boss that I'm getting my wisdom teeth out and told her that I'm looking for people to fill in my shifts but warned her “Hey, just in case, I wanted to let you know that I'm not sure I'll be able to get all my shifts covered”. So management is looking as well as me.
But if I can't get my shifts covered, my supervisor said I need to figure it out. Would I be an asshole if I just didn't show up? I mean, it's not my fault no one is answering me. And I'm sure as hell not teaching classes drugged up, blood dripping from my mouth, and with swollen cheeks out to neverland. But I'd feel incredibly guilty if I just didn't come to work and I'm worried I'll be fired. And this job is in a really convenient place for me. It's a really short walk and I don't have a driver's license (I'm petrified of driving, most of my friends and family have been in really bad car accidents at one point in their life and I'm terrified of going anywhere near those big metal death traps called cars because of it). So I'm worried if I don't show up, I'll be fired. But I'll be physically unable to work anyways. What do I do???
