Capitalism and lack of empathy

Cw for death/disturbing story In case anyone needs a reminder about how little they (companies, etc) care, today I got to work to find a coworker had passed away in the back room. They taped off the area, and everyone just kept working. We didn't shut down for even an hour, nothing. Two people went home, including the person who found him, but they had to use some of our minimal sick time. We just cried a little and kept going. Probably while being a bit in shock, honestly. I just kept thinking about how, when we talk about how capitalism doesn't encourage healthy communities, or even a culture of humane behaviour, people don't always agree or understand that idea. But it was such a clear example of that.
