1960-D reverse
A few months back at my job we were extremely short staffed (shocker, as I make $14/hr, at a job that has a decent risk for injury) and our manager basically told my entire shift that we could either volunteer for OT to help the other shift on Sundays, or we would be assigned it as mandatory OT. Everyone on my shift said they would be willing to help, and we worked out a schedule where we would be working 6 days a week every other week to help out the opposite shift. I showed up for this OT shift twice, and both times someone had called out, and once someone left mid shift because they didn’t feel good. (Mind you, this is a person who is a chronic slack ass and will do anything to get out of any kind of work) I was angry, so I sent a…
Over the years, I have learned that the definitions of achievement or advancement are ambiguous and shifting. This often depends on who one works with, the nature of the work, and if one has the resources to do the intended work. It's terrible that people can be controlled by the feeling of having to prove themselves to others in a manner that isn't very self-fulfilling. Perhaps there are other ways to live that provide opportunities to improve oneself and one's relationship with the world – without getting entangled in definitions of success.
Being Pushed Out?
I've been with my current employer for a few years, but now it feels like they're trying to push me out. They're constantly hiring new people and giving them all the available shifts, while reducing my hours severely. I asked the top manager about this and they told me they'd look into it. They didn't. I later asked the department who oversees things like scheduling/pay and so on and they basically told me they don't handle complaints like that but would pass it along to my managers who will follow up with me on it. They didn't. So now I messaged another one of my managers who is the manager in charge of employee schedules, and they ignored me. The funny thing, I'm considered one of their better employees and have even won an award for it too. This company continues to hire more and more people for jobs that…
I have sat for many interviews, first I have to give a test, if I pass that, then they give me an assignment to complete to check my “competence'. Okay, I am a fresher. You can check it. The worst thing after all this, if I was rejected, they ghost me and recieve no answer. What? I went all through that bs and you don't have courtesy to tell me if I am rejected or not. And even more worst part, they don't disclose salary or benefits before making me go through all these rounds. Their answer ” We will discuss it if you are selected”. I have given up. Its so frustrating, once I was rejected because as I was explaining my idea their question, they paid no attention to me and kept talking on phone. Sorry for this rant. And they don't even read the resume properly, the…
To combat inflation.
Everyone is getting a 1% raise in our company. A permanent pay raise. Because inflation and all.
Not sure how to quit (again)
So I’ve always had that hustle attitude and made sure to work hard/play hard. Recently I moved to a new state to be my FIL caregiver and inherited my husbands grandparents home. When we moved to be closer to my FIL I had a job before even stepping foot in my new home. Moved down on a Monday and the following Monday started work. It has consumed me. I have been speaking with my boss/owner since February stating I needed my hours shortened where he made me a part time position and tried to accommodate me. In the agreement it was i was to get the month of March off as I put my “two weeks” in for my current position and would come back as the new position. Well that didn’t happen. I have been working my old position and have not received anytime off besides the few days…
A petty comeback
Firstly, I am really enjoying this sub. A lot of what I'm seeing here that folks are starting to do with regards to work leaves me with a lot of encouragement. I had come to a lot of the attitudes here early in my career especially having been burned enough times. Things like using the “work at will” laws within a state to my advantage, job hopping in order to get any sort of significant salary increase, etc. For 2 decades my career was as a software developer. I got my b.s. in computer science “late” in life – I finally graduated 2 months before I turned 30. I'm not currently working right now, my husband and I have the good fortune that if we live frugally we don't have to work, but we are thinking of going back to work to shore up more of our savings. We talk…
